Around 100 Pattaya Grab Food drivers went on strike for an afternoon to protest that the pay cuts, they say, translate into unlivable pay.

Drivers have joined with Big C in South Pattaya to demand that the pay scale changed last year be reinstated and the basic delivery payment be increased from 30 baht to 35-40 baht.
Drivers protested the pay system after it was changed in November when the company introduced a bonus system and offered discounts on gasoline, but the drivers said that was not enough. Compensation depends on distance traveled and longer journeys are not profitable, they complained.
“Although the delivery people tried to figure out that the business has been dealing with the effects of Covid-19, everyone has been patient,” said driver Narongsak Suksanguan, 30. “What we earn does not cover the use of our own vehicles.”
He said cutting wages while forcing drivers to take more trips to earn bonus points significantly reduced take-home pay. Many drivers who earned around 1,000 baht per day now earn 400 baht or less and still have to cover fuel and maintenance.
